Hillsboro City Council Votes to Seek Bond Measure for Parks, Indoor Recreation Center

At the July 1, 2008 Hillsboro City Council meeting, City Council approved a resolution to put an approximately $44.5 million parks bond measure on the ballot for the November 2008 election. If the bond passes, it would finance various park projects including a new community indoor recreation center at the 53rd Avenue Community Park and park and open space improvements throughout Hillsboro at seven different sites. First Phase of 53rd Avenue Park Underway!

Hillsboro Parks & Recreation is underway with construction on the southeast 10 acre portion of the park. A $500,000 grant from the Oregon Parks & Recreation Department (Oregon Lottery funds) will go towards the around $4 million cost of construction of this phase. Lighted artificial turf playing fields and a parking lot were completed and opened in June 2008. Soon to come are restrooms, concessions, tennis courts, basketball courts, plaza with fountain, and additional parking.
